End of support means that Microsoft will no longer provide further support for that specific service pack level. This means that customers need to upgrade to a supported service pack to continue to receive security updates, hotfixes or assisted support from Microsoft Customer Service & Support. Also see: What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?
Note: If you are using XP SP2 64-bit Service Pack 2, there is still support until April 8, 2014. There is no SP3 for XP 64-bit
What to do?
- If you are using Vista without Service Pack, install a Service Pack. Currently, Service Pack 2 is the latest. Note that you need to install SP1 before you can install SP2.
- If you are using XP SP2, upgrade to Service Pack 3.
- If you are using Windows 2000, upgrade to XP, Vista or Windows 7.
To download a Service Pack for XP and Vista, go to Windows Update website (open Windows Update program in Vista)
