Good afternoon members, friends and visitors,
We have 2 new stuffs here in CoU:
1. CoU Updates in browser's search bar
While you are in CoU, you can search the Calendar entries for Updates. Useful if you do not want to look into the calendar for a long hours and/or if you have not update your software but want to know if your preferred software has been updated. Peter (aka ColdinCbus) have made the search page available for some time now. It's here. You will find that page also when you hover your mouse in "Search" above our pages:

What's new in this is... I provided a guide on how you can add CoU's Updates in the built-in "search bar" of the popular web browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. The guide to add CoU Updates search function in your browser is posted in our forums with member's comments.
2. IP Blocklist for Outpost Firewall
Some of you may notice IP Blocklist for Outpost update entries in the Calendar of Updates. I am an Outpost Firewall user and I am taking advantage of the said function in Outpost Firewall. The Blocklist plugin is now integrated in Outpost Firewall. See the history of it at Agnitum blog.
Last month, we have a discussion about IP Blocklist function in Outpost Firewall and I shared my blocklist file to other OP users as their starting point in using the said Blocklist function in Outpost. It's like HOSTS file e.g. hpHOSTS, MVPS Hosts file but the difference are:
- the blocked entries is blocked by IP address instead of domain name;
- My blocklist that I'm publishing is not blocking ads. Just the IP addresses of known and new rogue and some malware distributors. The reason I'm not adding ads is because Outpost Firewall has ads blocking signature already which means Outpost users is protected from malicious ads already and it is turn on by default.
This update do not mean only Outpost users can take advantage of it. If you are using a HOSTS file, you can add what is new in the IP Blocklist (in case your HOSTS file has not been updated yet or do not have protection for the said domains or IPs that we recently added in IP Blocklist).
How IP Blocklist works:
An example how IP Blocklist for Outpost works.. let's say you have added in the Blocklist in Outpost to block the IP address by rogue software, 91.203.92.48. Outpost will resolve it by adding the domain name that currently using the said IP address and it resolved as antivirus-scanner(dot)com. When you visit a NEW rogue website or NEW regisered domain that happen to be using the same IP address by the antivirus-scanner(dot)com, you do not need to add the domain name to be blocked because Outpost will recognize it as the same bad and rogue IP address that serves a rogue product:

With IP blocking instead of domain name blocking, you will have short list of blocklist. All you have to is enter the new domain or website name in Outpost Blocklist and if it detected that it exists already, Outpost will not add it again since you already have a Blocklist rule for the said IP address but new domain.
I update that daily or whenever there's new bad and rogue sites that is in the wild. I actually want to update it every 3 days but each time I see new rogue links from trusted sources or researchers and my own findings (from spam or while I'm crusing the net or playing with malware in a testing PC and controlled network)... I just need to update what I share to Outpost users and also can be reference to HOSTS file users.
The download link of Outpost Blocklist contains 5 files:
1. What's New - This text file contains the information on what was added, removed or updated in the blocklist. If you are not Outpost user, you can use this as reference and check if your HOSTS file or another prevention software that allow you to block bad IP or domain have it already.
2. The IP Blocklist in .txt, in .lst and in .dat files format. These are the files available for Outpost users to import in Outpost Blocklist function. Only one of these files is to be imported. Depending on what file format the OP user want to import. It can dat, lst or txt format.
3. Readme - some information about the blocklist files.
You can download it at http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?a...tail&f_id=3
Edit: IP Blocklist for OA was announced on May 13, 2009 while IP Blocklist for KIS was released on Setp. 14, 2009.
