:deal: Has there been discussion of extending the Calendar to include end-of-life / end-of-support notices for major apps? Just wondering...

Hello J Bowman, :hello:

We don't mention them all but you will find a few here.

That discussion has never came up and will be taken into consideration.
Feel free to post in Product Discussions (PD) & Security Information and Updates Talk in the future. :)

When ever there is a major 'end of support' announcement (and this is a relatively rare occurance), there typically is a ton of forum chatter about it. If you visit our (or any other security based) forums, even on an infrequent basis, you are likely to see comments about the end of support, typically 6-9 months ahead of the event. I believe we've made many calendar posts with respect to the end of support for Windows 98, so I guess, for the most part, we are doing what you suggested.

We actually post such info before and been posting in the calendar :)

Example of such entries:
Dr.Web v4.32b & below end of support

End of Support: Windows 98, 98SE & ME - Discussion at http://www.dozleng.c...dates/topic8161

End of support: MBSA v1.2.1

End of support for Service Pack 1

ZoneLabs 98/98SE/Me Support Discontinued

Weeks ago..I've added some entries for next year - 2007:

Discontinued: AVG 7.1

End of Support: Plus! for Windows XP
End of Support: Windows Movie Maker 2.0

End of Support: Microsoft Java Virtual Machine

There are previous entries in the calendar about applications' end-of-life/support
If we have in the calendar, we can hit 'make a post' to start a discussion :)

Yeah, gal and guys, we have been doing those, but I think that J Bowman might be talking about all the vendors who withdraw support from specific versions, without their making major announcements.

I'm thinking of examples like Symantec and their automatic withdrawal of full support for NAV versions greater than 12 months old (like NAV2005 will go off full support now that 2007 has been released) and McAfee, who do much the same thing as Symantec.

They're just two examples, and I'm sure there are many, many others. As these are rarely the subject of major announcements by the vendors concerned, but happen on a regular cyclic basis, maybe we can begin to collect the data, as we find it, and post these to the Calendar.

A good thought, and a great suggestion, I think.
