Great tool! Should be included with every Windows computer sold! However, it gets "stale" and must be re-downloaded with the latest copy every so often (wonder how they do that?). So I keep a copy in my toolbox and a test file link on where to get the new one if the pc can connect to the 'net.
This is also Symantec's way of acknowledging that their uninstall is rather buggy.

Actually, you'll find that *many* installers are 'buggy' in that they purposefully do not remove *every* entry made to your registry - hence our growing familiarity with terms such as 'registry corruption', 'registry fragmentation' and 'orphan registry entries'.
It's just that with Norton, it was first noticed that it's uninstaller left too much info there that interfered with other Norton installs.
Now, with McAfee having a similar tool, it is obvious that the uninstaller is not only the problem - the whole general program / suite of programs is to blame - I call it faulty coding.

Only thing I see is the latest Norton removal tool now removes them all, 2003/2004/2005/2006/2007.
Some links are directed to the same tool, but nothing wrong with that because the author explains everything in great detail. Also I see some old removal tools also.
Indeed it's an excellent link too.
Here's another tool also from Symantec.

Note, do not use Norton Removal Tool in Vista systems. The Norton Removal Tool will damage/remove the tunmp.sys in Vista (tunmp.sys - Microsoft Tunnel Interface Driver) after successful removal of Norton products.
I reported it to Symantec but no update on Norton Removal Tool yet.

I am not crashing Norton, simply, I use Total Uninstall for MANY reasons and I think this aids in removal of Norton as well. It sets up an image of registry, etc... and will uninstall the program and restore your system to the way it was prior to any software install. Of course I don't have to say what a great security tool this is. If anyone is familiar with it, you know what i'm talking about. Excellent tool. Like I said, it should be a nice aid in Norton removal as well but I doubt many people would use it. I think this would help with the Vista issue since the registry is put back the way it was, leaving no files corrupt or gone. I think TU is now for Vista as well.

Donna..
I figured while I was here, I might cross-reference your post regarding the release of "Norton Removal Tool 2008.0.0.21 For Windows Vista/XP/2000". You cross-referenced this thread. It's only fair! As they say, "it couldn't hurt".
