ZoneAlarm 7.0.337.000 (free) installs a software called 'MailFrontier', which in turn installs a scanner & toolbar in Outlook. I am not sure if everybody wants that - I certainly don't!

Unlike with 7.0.302.000, there is no uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs. However, there is still a way to uninstall it:
  • Close Outlook
  • Windows Explorer, open C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\MailFrontier
  • Double-click UNWISE.EXE
  • When prompted for the install.log file, use C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\MailFrontier\INSTMLF.LOG
  • on the MailFrontier uninstall panel, select Automatic [Next>], then [Finish]

Thank you very much for this uninstall information. I think a lot of people will be upset with ZoneLabs for installing the MailFrontier "feature" without asking the user's permission. If I had not found your post, I was ready to uninstall ZoneAlarm completely.

Thanks for the above solution!
One Cnet member was looking for the said solution. I don't use ZA so I have no idea what's that new feature in ZA.

I just noticed below post at ZA forums. They are offering download of reg file that will fix the above issue on antispam (posted by them on April 4, 2007):

Quote

Some users of free ZoneAlarm have inadvertently had Anti-spam enabled. This can cause interference with Outlook and Outlook Express, or possibly with Outlook crashes.

To turn off the anti-spam filtering, please click on the following link. Select Run. Once it runs, you will get a popup asking if you really wish to add this information to the registry, click Yes. Then reboot your system. Antispam should now be disabled.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Note: The quoted message above contains direct download to the reg file. Always check the above forum link if not working anymore.

Thanks! While I found that the Mail Frontier program did catch some spam my other filters were missing, I really did not like having that many layers of anti-spam sw on my system. The download above stopped the app from running as advertised.

This may be more of an issue at the moment.

It appears there have been many Licence "glitches" for ZoneAlarm users still running 6.x versions of ZoneAlarm since last weekend. It is certainly an issue for Windows XP users, but I'm not sure whether it may also apply to other NT-based Windows versions (anything except Vista, which has its own "special" new version of ZoneAlarm, and Win9x-based Windows versions, from which support was withdrawn with the release of ZoneAlarm 6.5).

In essence, it appears that the older AntiSpyware and AntiVirus modules seem to be causing, somehow, whether intentionally or unintentionally, Licences to "expire" prematurely, on the older versions of ZoneAlarm Pro (at least).

The resolution given by ZoneAlarm Tech Support is to fully uninstall ZoneAlarm, with a slightly modified uninstallation procedure, and clean reinstall the latest applicable version of ZoneAlarm, which is 7.0.337.000 for Windows XP, which will of course drop you right into the situation specifically described in this Topic, perhaps necessitiating your taking advantage of the fix that Donna has mentioned.

Why these "glitches" have been occurring has not yet been explained, to the best of my knowledge, but appears to be linked to an unavailability of some ZoneAlarm Update Servers last weekend. Since that time, even though the Servers became available once more, apparently many ZOneAlarm 6.5 users have been having these problems.

Farbeit for me to suggest that, perhaps, there is an unannounced roll-up of users from earlier versions of ZoneAlarm to the current release, but perhaps a "sunset clause" in the Licencing for Use of the older CA AS/AV modules, incorporated within the 6.5 release of ZoneAlarm, has kicked in?

If that is indeed the case, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has seen any publication of this as a pending event, prior to last weekend.

Nope! That's the Registry entry that will be inserted into your Registry, if you click the link that Donna gave from the ZoneAlarm Support Forum ...

But it can be a direct download, if you click the link above, rather than right-click and select Save target as ....
