Great news!! I was one of many people who wrote to my MP to try and get things changed, so well pleased that something is being done.

The European Commission has launched legal proceedings against the UK government for alleged breaches of EU data protection laws caused by controversial internet advertising company Phorm.

In a video posted on her web site, Viviane Reding, the European Union's Commissioner for Information Society and Media, said that Europeans must have the right to control how their personal information is used.

:woot: Thanks for that news, weaselthatbites!

This issue has caused a fair riot in some forums, and several anti-phorm sites have sprung up. It's a massive issue, and hopefully, this will be the end of it.

Wait, there's more...
EU tells UK to "rePhorm" its e-privacy laws
And the one that started it all...
Brussels to sue UK over Phorm failures
"Only" 109 comments so far, so they're just getting warmed up...

About time!

By Anonymous Coward Posted Tuesday 14th April 2009 12:56 GMT

It's about time someone started taking note of the UK's laws.

What a shame we can no longer rely on government or the police in the UK to enforce them anymore.

One has to pay full attention Privacy Laws for us sound great but what does that really mean? We never really know till it is applied and this is not right!

I know how you feel because hiding in the new may be things that take away your Privacy and or rights but it is hidden in the find print deep with with the "may" and other use of words and then it has it so it says part of something and then points you to other code so it gets harder and harder to read and understand.

It is the same in the USA and it's called "Lawyers". Darn the ones that pass the laws never read everything because there is so many pages if find print they don't even understand.

What we need is The Second American Revolution

We The People Stimulus Package

Thomas Paine on to Washington

I love the links you have posted hewee... :D

It is reported (and not contradicted by the government) that here in the UK, each citizen is captured on CCTV, 300 times a day, while getting on with his/her lawful life.
It has got so bad that, you don't now see a policeman on the street......they all rely on CCTV images to solve crimes. In other words, proactive policing does not exist any more...

How did you manage to dig up a two month old newspaper article??....

As always, I find the comments following any article very amusing.....especially this one:

"I assume I'm under surveillance from the moment I leave my apartment, and I’m not wrong because there are CCTV cameras on the main entrance.

I can't say it bothers me too much; the day my knicker elastic goes it probably will".
