I hid this post until we can get a chance to check out this program. This member joined just to post it and I, for one have never heard of it. I just woke up and need to get caught up everywhere so it will be a while before can get back to this.

Hi Rod, I checked the same link as you plus the download locations. I have since been in touch with netgate (should've CC'd the PM) because the entry was a little incomplete when first posted and he added further information.

Leopards don't change their spots and as far as I am concerned any program that was EVER on that list is no good as proven by this member who joined JUST to spam the calendar. We/I have been through this same scenerio many times over the years and it always has the same result.

This post was spam IMO.

I understand what you're saying. Does the post stand or is it to be removed ? Is there to be more investigation ?

It's being discussed elsewhere Ray and we are waiting for Donna to come online. I think it should remain hidden until Donna looks at this situation.

Thanks for keeping on top of it Ray.

What host file are you using? It is not in hpHosts http://hosts-file.ne...y-emergency.com

I can't recommend this product. There are better ones out there IMHO that are free.

The program is still considered as low risk by:
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/malware/?Adware...32.SpyEmergency (the detection pertaining to Spy Emergency 2006)

It have L status in http://www.systemlookup.com/search.php?typ...ySrv.exe&s=

Spy Emergency – SPYEMERGENCYSRV.EXE

Spyemergencysrv.exe installs with Spy Emergency 2005 by Netgate. This program promises to rid your computer of malware including spyware, adware, keyloggers and trojans. More information can be found at http://www.spy-emergency.com/.

If you want this program to manage spyware, leave this file in place. Older versions of this software were criticized for generating false positives. This issue has been resolved with the 2005 version. So if you're using an older version, you might consider upgrading.

http://www.winpatrol.com/db/plus2009/spyem...cysrv.exe&1

WOT flags it as "yellow" (not green, not red)
http://www.mywot.com...y-emergency.com

SiteAdvisor says "clean" or "green"
http://www.siteadvis...y-emergency.com

It has beend delisted by Malwarebytes Team: http://www.malwareby...?showtopic=4343 but not recommended by them.

IP Blocklist for Outpost Firewall blocks the domain of this program because it is known risk and history of being rogue program (check the comments in MBAM forum... agressive marketing, false positives).
Also we don't recommend or post updates of programs that have rogue history because there are many better ones.

That's 5 thumbs down (hpHosts, IP Blocklist, Emsi Soft, WOT) vs 1 OK (SiteAdvisor)

If this program is safe to use, Netgate should contact Emsisoft and Malware Listing (see WOT's link) for removal on their database (if found not risk anymore) but that does mean it's a recommended program or can be posted here. We have the right to allow or not any postings that is questionable.

I use hostsman and the hosts files it lets you use so one of them added that site.
But Mike's hosts file does not update any more so I can not check that site so who know who added it.

I agree I would stay away from it too.
There are far more better out there that are also free below.
Only thing about the ones below is they don't hit on Spam.
A-squared http://www.emsisoft..../software/free/
MalwareBytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superanti...m/download.html

Due to all this, I have deleted the update from the calendar. If and when Netgate gets these other programs to remove this program from their database some time in the future, we will consider adding the update then. Until that is done, there is no need for it on the CoU calendar.

I redid the hosts file and clean up lots of old listing in it.

Still will stay away from that site and the software.
