Did anyone see Comodo's new DNS re-direction option? This concerns me considering the certs and Ask controversies.

They are using NeuStar's DNSAdvantage - dnsadvantage.com/neustar.biz
Not sure about that service but some have thoughts about it since last year:

http://www.enterpris...cle.php/3727951

Then there's issue about it posted in http://www.broadband...Advantage-Users earlier this year

Thanks, G. I updated the calendar entry http://www.calendaro...;event_id=44516 with the following notes:
Update (July 3, 2009) - Comodo released the new version of CIS without SafeSurf anymore but with HopSurf/Ask/IAC Toolbar and yes, it is pre-checked again so beginners can fall into installing unneeded and unnecessary third party with questionable status toolbar/service.

And below is the screenshot of the installer with HopSurf/Ask/IAC: Pre-checked, No EULA is presented and again, it is communicating to IAC server and to third party service/server...when you try to use the Ask.com search:

Wow, what happened to the EULA?? Comodo seems to be getting even more secretive and not less.

mvdu, so do you still wanna wait for this firewall co. to
get back to what it was when it first appeared on the web scene
of have you finally been convinced?
or do you still hope Comodo "stays around"?

Comodo HopSurf - Go Ahead And Discover The Web!

Comodo Hopsurf is the latest web browser toolbar that's compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera provided for free by Comodo. For those not in the know, or just not familiar with the name, Comodo is software/certification company that specializes on computer security and identity (website, e-mail, etc) certification. I've been using a lot of their software and I have to admit that I'm both impressed and satisfied with everything they've offered so far. Comodo Hopsurf further reinforces my view of them as a highly reliable company

I'm all about giving second chances, but even I've about given up on this company. I said "hope it stays around" on Wilders, where because of the fan bioys, I try to be conciliatory about it.

Your statement "instead, the new version of Comodo is now bundled with HopSurf Toolbar which is IAC/Ask.com too." is not correct. Hopsurf is a Comodo product, conceived, developed and published by Comodo. Hopsurf Toolbar is a Comodo product. I would appreciate it if you corrected your statement, as I am sure you do not want to mislead your readers with false information.

Thank you Donna,

Melih's last statement makes no difference to my opinion of the COMODO products....Pity, once it used to be a good company. It is very hard to build a good reputation, but it is very easy to destroy it......and they seem to have been very successful in doing just that.... :woot:
None of the people I know use then any more.

Their excuse is always the same. The toolbar is made by them (Symantec, BitDefender and now Comodo HopSurf) but their EULA includes IAC/Ask and the toolbar was embraced as part of their installer because of the partnership they have with IAC/Ask which is 100% unnecessary to provide security or privacy software. They should not tell people that they need money to continue developing free software because no one told them to provide free products.

I agree with you Basil.. it's hard to build a good reputation. Clean installer, clean software, trusted security software... luckily there are still some of them out there.

Did you disinfect? I use to campaign for the comodo products, but no longer can. The product could never be trusted now that they support malware by except payment. Now it's "All about the money" Melih's baggage of shame to bear

Good response, Donna - Melih seems to trying to get by on a technicality while ignoring the details. We have seen this kind of dishonesty before from them.

I see where Melih claims:

"There are ill intentioned people out there who are spreading lies saying that hopsurf is IAC/ASK toolbar..."

http://forums.comodo...05342#msg305342

The duplicity in this statement is astounding. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck ... it's a duck!

I will quote it here before it gets deleted since Melih is claiming it is truly developed by Comodo, yet it is calling home to ask per the above evidence supplied.

FYI:

There are ill intentioned people out there who are spreading lies saying that hopsurf is IAC/ASK toolbar...

I can categorically confirm that Hopsurf is NOT IAC/ASK toolbar.. Its a Comodo product, developed by Comodo!

I feel sorry for these ill intentioned people where the only thing they have is lies in order to fight Comodo.

Melih
I find it interesting that in the same thread that he does not know how to upgrade the toolbar and refers you to needing to talk to the devs... makes you wonder if he does not really know what is happening within his company and is having to do "spin control" on a constant basis.

No lies spread, just an observation and personal opinion.

I took the interesting comments from that thread, joe:

Quote

melih Today we do not make money from you using surfing features of hopsurf etc... only if you do a web search we make money but its just a web page for searching and nothing else (no 3rd party application. We listened to our users and removed the 3rd party application ask toolbar).

:hmm:

Quote

Q: How can users get Hopsurf who upgraded from 3.9 to 3.10? There was no option on the upgrade.
Melih: dunno.... need to discuss it with the dev guys..
A: Surely you can just download it from here: http://www.hopscotch, or summat

Melih doesn't know the answers to his own products?

Quote

A2: If you look in your Comodo folder in Program files, the exe to install the HopSurf toolbar is there.

So it's not integrated.

Quote

I just updated from 3.9 to 3.10 yesterday and again this evening without a clean install and apart from a BSOD this evening on the reboot from 529 to 530.
Another great Comodo product is born.

I figure it's reasonable to maintain tradition, so a BSOD is par for the course, it seems. The users love it, at least.

Quote

I don't know Melih, you say removed the ASK toolbar but I just tried the hopsurf one and anything that is search through it is directed through the ask search engine.

Melih: No its NOT ask toolbar.. its a Comodo developed toolbar.. our own software developers wrote hopsurf....if you do a search we still use ask search engine for that... but NOT their toolbar.
Hopsurf is a social authentication infrastructure.

It's a comodo social authentication interface to the Ask toolbar then?

Quote

Hi Melih,
Thanks alot for all information regarding hopsurf toolbar i liked it & will use it & also tell my other friends who are using CIS to upgrade & use hopsurf toolbar.
I also liked Secure DNS service i opted for it too.

Yeah, right.
