1. Undo immunization
2. If SDHelper and TeaTimer are enabled, deactivate them first.
3. If Opera Browser is installed, de-select "Opera Immunity" protection.
4. If you are using Spybot S&D HOSTS File, remove it
5. Uninstall old version of Spybot S&D
6. Reboot

Optional step: If you want to completely remove "all and old" registry entries of the old version of Spybot S&D, get the registry file from http://forums.net-in...showtopic=31012 topic or get it at http://www.safer-networking.org/files/remo...sd-settings.reg directly. Save it to your desktop where you can find it easily. Simply merge the reg file to the registry.

7. Install Spybot S&D 1.4

Note: The official guide on "How to update the program to the newest version" is located in http://safer-network...wto/update.html

It is recommended to UNINSTALL old version before installing the new version! (See - http://net-integrati...ent/view/33/25/ )

After installation, update the program.

If it only took a couple of seconds Tim. close the program and open is again and rescan and it should scan normal but it is still faster than 1.3. We had a thread going earlier today at CNET about the 2 second scan LOL Here is the link for that conversation.

The (CNET) thread will take longer to read (45 posts eachone openend one at a time) than a 1.3 scan...FWIW, 1.4 still takes a long time, not sure if mine is the exception, but I don't see any big difference in scanning time. A scan on boot took 24 minutes.

That was why the link I provided was for half way down that thread where the posts started for the quick scan. I realize that it is tough to follow threads at CNET if you are not used to it. The links starts at Ken's post about the quick scan and then mine and some others. It was message 22, just click next where right below that message and it will take you directly to number 23.

:( Three scans found Windows Media Player and Wild tangent each time (including a scan after rebooting which followed a scan)

I just checked for what Spybot checks and Windows Media Player isn't even on the list. The closest thing to it is a tracking cookie from "Windows Media SDK". Wild Tangent is on there, yes. It from the Wild Tangent game controller that comes with new HP/Compaq computers and has a lousy privacy policy and Spybot flags it as spyware.

Check and see if it's there first.

I kept the Wild Tangent ingored on this computer when I bought it new because I liked the games. I had no side effects at all. When the game trials were over, I uninstalled the Wild Tangent Game controller and the games and unignored the Spybot detections but they were gone when I uninstalled the games and controller because Spybot never found them again.

Haroldo,

My scan is long too. If it is faster then before it is very hard to tell because it seems just as slow as before.
I even did a defrag of my PC first.
Get 7 things from my hosts file only that it finds but they are not anything I want to fix.

Hello hewee my friend

It's because you are scanning all those host files. I bet you are using a another host files too. There's 40 some thousand of them if you are using hphost file. I disabled my host files with Hostess first before and scanned with the spybot host file first after the install.

OK I can disable the hosts to tak care of that but I still don't think it much faster. It get to the end and then takes a long time at scanning the bookmarks too.

There is a bug with this too.

I update everything and had Immunize 1995 bad products.
But each time you go back and look it says 1992 bad products. 3 additional protection possible. Please immunize.

But adding the other 3 will not stay.

Hewee, are you hitting BOTH immunize buttons? Once you hit the shield on the left (used to be a red brick looking wall on the old one), that takes you to the immunize page but the is also a green "+" mark at the top of the page that you have to hit. There are many, many people that don't hit that button that I have talked to because they never realized that you had to do that. It is an extremely common problem at CNET. I've had members there that have used Spybot for months and never realized that they were not actually immunized. I apologize if I'm wrong on this but I have seen it happen to so many people that I thought it was worth mentioning. :)

Thanks roddy but I am doing it all the right way. Also that is where I see warning that pops up saing "1992 bad products. 3 additional protection possible. Please immunize." I click ok and the I have 1995 immunize.
I can leave that page and come right back to it and again get the warning "1992 bad products. 3 additional protection possible. Please immunize."

How many are list there for you has immunize?

I have 6,547 blocked but I have found that depending on the operating system, the number is different. I am using XPSP2.
