I use IE V6.0 SP1 locked down with IE-SPYAD and Enough is Enough both available on Eric Howes' site.

The use of a good HOSTS file like hpHOSTS and eDexter will help with removing annoying ads and pop ups.

The Google Toolbar is also recommended.

Placing CWS IP addresses in the firewall prevents many of the CWS infections from happening.

I use them all (except AOL). Still testing them, but mostly IE.

Just to be "picky", the only actual browsers in the choice are IE and Mozilla, the rest are shells ;)

Thus, I use the Avant Browser "shell" and indirectly use IE as AB uses the IE engine, hehe.

hehe nope, last I checked it was a gecko shell..... (which reminds me, who is the actual original developer of the gecko engine?)

Sorry MysteryFCM, I didn't see your reply back in June.

I don't think Opera is based on Gecko.  Opera's layout engine (called Presto) is 'closed source'.  Gecko is open source technology.  Gecko was developed by the Mozilla people when they were a team working at Netscape.  It was originally called Raptor.

I used Netscape back since version 1.0 asewll, but I started using IE more and more as it 1) became integrate with the OS, and 2) became almost a requirement for some of the sites that I visit (some mortgage lenders sites require you to use IE).

I used Communicator as well, but I was forced to use IE to visit the Micro$oft game Zone, where I play spades quite a bit, and soon after taknig over M$ (of course) made it IE / WInders OS only.

Ahhh, well.

But for day to day stuff (and *especially* forum browsing) FF is the way to go for me.

I use Mozilla Firebird 1.0 mainly and Mozilla 1.7.3, but IE 6 for those sites the other two can't handle

IE for a couple of sites that require Active X, also Windows Updates.
Firefox for everything else.
