The SELPHY CP740 is a compact photo printer that lets you print 3×5” borderless photos in seconds. It has a built-in battery and can be used as a standalone device.
The $100 Canon Selphy CP740 is an entry-level compact photo printer with a feature set that is reflective of its relative position among dedicated 4×6 photo printers in that it has a limited number of onboard capabilities. Despite this, we were pleased with the overall print quality as well as the user-friendliness of the printer. This is a good option to go with if you are on a tight budget and looking for a printer that is specifically designed for printing snapshots. Check out the Epson PictureMate Snap, however, if you are looking for a product with a greater number of features and are willing to pay more for it.
The Canon Selphy CP740 is a very portable printer that fits easily into a large purse or tote bag due to its diminutive size. It has a depth of 5 inches, measures 7 inches wide, and has a height of 2.5 inches. It weighs 2.1 pounds when the ink cartridge is not installed, the paper cassette is not attached, and the power brick is not plugged in. When all of the necessary accessories are included, the weight increases slightly.
The user interface and control panel are located on the top face of the device. There is a color LCD display measuring 2 inches right there on the surface of the printer. Because it is not attached to a piece that can be moved, you will need to position yourself directly over it in order to get a good viewing angle. There are buttons for the power button, zooming in and out of an image, removing the red eye, and changing the mode, layout, and date along the edges of the LCD. The remaining two buttons are a print/stop button and a rocker switch with four different positions.
There are three memory card slots along the front edge of the device. These slots are compatible with the majority of memory cards currently available, but some will require an adapter (not included). In addition, there is a mini-USB cable that can be retracted to directly connect PictBridge cameras. The fact that the cable can be retracted is something that we thought was a nice touch. At long last, a panel slides open to expose the space designated for loading paper. It is necessary to load the paper into a paper cassette first, which is then attached to the front of the printer. This is because it is not possible to load paper directly into the printer.

Two USB ports, one for connecting the printer to a personal computer and the other for connecting a PictBridge device, can be found along the left edge of the printer (an alternative to the front-mounted mini-USB port). There is a door on the right edge of the device, which provides access to the ink cassette.
